The Beers

The Beers finally got their first victory, and did it easily, beating the Dinosaurs via the mercy rule in 6 innings. The bats finally woke up on Saturday and the 12 runs they scored were more than enough behind starter Rich Cupolo's strong performance. In the first inning, with runners on base and 2 outs, George Webb hat yet another dropped 3rd strike which (thanks to an overthrow) scored the 2 runners and led to a 4-run first. The Beers never looked back and padded their lead over the next 5 innings. Simon Rucker hit a walk-off, bases loaded 2-run single to induce the mercy rule win. Rich Cupulo gave up 1 earned run off 3 hits in 5 innings to earn the W.

However, the Beers couldn't complete the sweep. Down by 3 going into the bottom of the last inning of game 2, the Beers were able to get a run in and put 2 runners on but ended the game on an ill-conceived sac fly attempt. Mike Darling continued his hot hitting, going 3/3 with an RBI triple, raising his average to .593. Justin Daniels extended his RBI streak to 5 games, while Steve Rossi and Simon Rucker also driving in a run each.
